Family of New Jersey Man Awarded $2.55 M in Auto Crash Lawsuit

A wrongful death lawsuit connected to a New Jersey highway crash that resulted in the death of 29-year-old Agim Cira has finally been settled after the man’s family agreed to a $2.55 million settlement.

The details of the crash are as follows:

• The car crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on August 23, 2011.
• Cira, a husband and the father of two young girls, was in the passenger seat.
• The car, an Infiniti G37, was a “loaner” from a New Jersey auto dealership and driven by Besim Begaj.
• According to court documents, Begaj lost control of the car and drove off the road, then re-entered the road before swerving into oncoming traffic and crashing into a tractor-trailer.

Both men in the car were seriously injured in the crash and flown to a nearby university hospital, while the driver of the tractor-trailer was able to walk away unharmed. Cira suffered lacerations of the pancreas, spleen and portal vein, in addition to multiple rib fractures. Despite the hospital’s resuscitation attempts, he was pronounced dead about two hours after the accident.

Cira’s wife, acting as the administrator of his estate, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in New Jersey Supreme Court against Begaj, the driver and against Ramsey Infiniti, Inc. and Ramsey Auto Group, Inc., the owners of the car. Begaj’s insurer paid $50,000 in compensation, while the insurance carrier for Ramsey Auto Group and Ramsey Infiniti agreed to pay $2.5 million in settlement.
