Juvenile Charged with Hit and Run in Fatal Teaneck Crash

A fatal morning auto accident in Teaneck devastated a family and led to criminal charges against the juvenile responsible for the crash. Dymond Fryson, a 40-year-old patient authorization specialist for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, was only few doors from her home when the tragedy occurred. She had just dropped her daughter at school when a Ford Explorer driven by a high-school student struck her Nissan Rogue, hitting it with so much force that the vehicle was pushed into a nearby house. Fryson also left behind another daughter and was the guardian for her niece with her partner, Bronx school principal Isaiah Brown.

Several factors frequently associated with serious car crashes were present in the January 25 crash, including the following:

  • Juvenile driver — The driver of the Explorer was reported to be 17 years old, and might have been on his way to school with friends as the collision occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Recognizing that it takes a good deal of practice to become a truly safe motorist, New Jersey has a graduated driver’s license system, but lack of maturity or experience does lead to numerous collisions.

  • Excessive speeding — According to police, the Explorer was traveling at 62 miles per hour before impact, more than double the 25 mph speed limit. Neighbors noted that dangerous speeding was common on the street, which is frequently used to travel between two main roads. Police also noted that the juvenile driver ran through three stop signs before striking Fryson’s vehicle.

  • Hit and run — Despite the catastrophic nature of the crash, the juvenile driver and his passengers left the Explorer and ran away from the scene in an apparent attempt to avoid accountability. Though law enforcement soon caught up with them, there are many hit and run accidents where liable motorists cannot be immediately located. In these cases, it is particularly important to retain a lawyer who has experience with investigations to identify defendants and to pursue uninsured motorist claims.
