Some of the most dangerous roads in New Jersey are highways that are crowded with commuters, as well as cars driven by people patronizing businesses on either side of the traffic, such as Routes 4, 17, 46, 10 and 22. Many accidents occur normally on these highways, but when something happens to increase traffic volume, they might become even more hazardous.

In April, a devastating multi-vehicle crash on Route 10 in Randolph, claiming the lives of four individuals, and injuring several others. The accident occurred at the highway’s intersection with Millbrook Road, which includes multiple restaurants, an auto repair shop and other businesses Tragically, one of the vehicles was a minivan carrying employees and students from the P.G. Chambers School in Cedar Knolls, which serves children with disabilities.

Four-year-old Yexsel Reyes Granados died within the van, along with Bertha Castaneda and Maria Figueroa, who worked for the school. Diane Goetz, driving another vehicle, also died in the collision. In addition to the fatalities, at least four other individuals sustained injuries in the crash. Two adults were treated at the scene, while two children were transported to a local hospital for further medical care.

While investigators from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office began their review into the auto accident, state police officers increased patrols at Millbrook Road and three other dangerous Route 10 intersections. Some are speculating that Route 10 has become more dangerous since nearby sections of Route 80 were closed for emergency repairs due to the opening of sinkholes.

Multi-vehicle crashes like this one often involve complex investigations to determine the cause and assign liability. Factors such as driver negligence, road conditions and vehicle maintenance may all play a role. For the families of the victims and those injured, understanding their legal rights is crucial. They may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs and emotional suffering through personal injury or wrongful death claims.
