Regaining bladder function for spinal cord injury victims

The spinal cord serves as a bridge that sends signals from the human brain to the other parts of the body to function correctly. If an injury occurs to the spinal cord, bodily functions may be affected. Most Bergen County, New Jersey, residents may already understand that that is a reason why catastrophic injury victims find it difficult to cope with their daily lives.

A recent breakthrough in a spinal cord injury study suggests that bladder function may be able to be recovered. The clinical test, which was done on mice, was the first to successfully demonstrate how technology has progressed in the field of neuroscience. If a spinal injury patient loses bladder function, it can lead to complications like urinary tract infections and kidney stones. Bladder function is one of the functions that SCI patients want to regain after their injury, according to the study.

Nerve regeneration is crucial, as highlighted in the study, as it may promise other medical breakthroughs for SPI patients universally. Bladder function is just one of the things that challenges a spinal cord injury victim. People who suffer from SCI experience various difficulties, including loss of physical activity and coma. In addition to the stressful dilemma that they are going through, SCI victims and their families need money to pay for expensive medication and treatment.

Across the U.S., there are 200,000 Americans who have SCI and 20,000 more are added to that number each year. For residents of Bergen County, New Jersey, if an accident causes a spinal cord injury because of someone else’s negligence, compensation may be possible. To claim compensation from a negligent party, the victims or someone on their behalf may file a lawsuit.
